What is Dry Skin? Do you suffer from Dry Skin?
Skin requires constant moisturizer and can turn dry when your oil glands cannot produce sufficient lubricant (Sebum) for your body. The loss of these oil glands and sweat glands as your age worsens dry skin. During winter, skin tends to suffer from this common ailment and become extremely dry and rough, a term referred to medically as xerosis. When the skin loses moisture, it may crack and peel or become irritated and inflamed causing severe chapping, scaling and itching. Dry skin is most common in your lower legs, arms, flank (sides of the abdomen), and thighs.
Causes of Dry Skin
Dehydration of the skin is caused by extremes in temperature, whether its powerful heating or air-conditioning. Another cause could be the extreme temperature of water used for bathing or due to rough towel drying. Dehydration, sun exposure, smoking and stress may also cause dry skin.
Dos and Donts
There are several ways in which you can care for skin to make sure it doesnt feel dry and uncomfortable. It also needs extra protection.
Dry Skin needs plenty of through but gentle cleansing, regular stimulation through massage and generous quantity of oil and moisture. Avoid using any chemical soap. And always touch your face gently. Double-cleanse with a cream, leaving a light, thin trace of it on the skin after the second cleansing. A moisturize increases the water content of the outer layer of the skin and gives it soft, moist look.
