Five Things Essential to Skin Care

Skin care is a delicate matter. Skin is baby soft when we are born and becomes dryer, rougher and more saggy as time goes by. Hormones can cause pores to clog, which will result in pimples and acne. Age causes skin to sag and wrinkle. The environment and life choices such as smoking can further the damage. Five things in particular are useful in fighting the effects of time and our surrounding on our skin.

All skin care routines should begin with a good cleanser. It is important to take note of what kind of skin you have. Some people have oily skin while others have dry tight skin. Some people have a combination of both types. There are also many people with sensitive skin. Many cleansers are specially formulated to fit any skin type. Excess oil on the skin can lead to an increase in pimples. Dry skin feels extremely tight immediately after cleansing. Dry skin may flake off. Combination skin will feel oily in the T zone and dry elsewhere. Good skin care requires cleansing in the morning and at night.

Moisturizer is the second thing that is essential to skin care. Moisturizer helps to restore natural oils washed away during cleansing. Lotions used on the body should not be applied to the face. Certain moisturizers are specially formulated to protect against wrinkles as you age. Some moisturizers contain sunscreen to help protect against the sun during the day. Different moisturizers should be used at night to revitalize the skin while you sleep. Moisturizer should always be a part of any skin care routine.

Water is the third thing that should be included in any skin care regimen. It is recommended that you drink 6 to 8 glasses of water everyday. Water is needed to help the body function properly. It also helps to cleanse the pores and keep skin looking vibrant and radiant. Water helps to keep the skin hydrated from the inside.

Exercise is also important to skin care. Many experts agree that exercise can improve the look and feel of skin. Exercise improves circulation and helps to flush out toxins. It helps to deliver nutrients to the skin and encourages the production of collagen, which reduces wrinkles. Exercise is also effective in reducing stress, which can in turn reduce acne. It is important to remember to cleanse immediately following exercise to prevent the pores from getting clogged.

Diet is the final essential ingredient in a good skin care regimen. Like water, a healthy diet keeps the body functioning properly. Diet is also responsible for delivering important nutrients to our skin. Vitamin A obtained from low fat dairy products will help keep skin looking vibrant. Antioxidant rich foods such as berries will help skin appear younger. Healthy oils help keep the skin hydrated. Green tea, whole grains, salmon and nuts are all beneficial to skin as well.

Good skin care doesnt come easy. With these 5 things, skin will be healthy, vibrant and younger for a long time to come.

Getting That Sexy Tan

Every decade has a fad, or usually, multiple fads, that everyone decides is a great idea and must do. In recent years, suddenly tanning became that fad, and the general population decided to be tan was to be healthy.

Lying out in the sun, oiling up with tanning oil, and staying there for hours on end meant a nice dark look. Dark skin meant healthy skin and a healthy body, right?

Quite the contrary. Though it may be a bit of a stretch to compare lying in the sun with tanning oil to a basting chicken in a rotisserie, it is a bit of the same concept. Tanning, in fact, is not healthy, dark skin is not good, and oiling up for a better tan only makes things worse. Where the public got the idea that a dark tan meant health will probably be a mystery (maybe from bodybuilders?), but it is important that the myth has been debunked and the truth told.

Hanging out under the sun too long, especially without any protective sunscreen, will do major damage to your skin. It does not matter that the sun does have some benefits, you have to keep in mind that too much of anything is bad for you (even drinking too much water can kill you if you are not careful!).

When you are in the sun without the proper protection, the elastin fibers in your skin that helps to keep it tight and strong. Too much sun will mean skin aging, sagging, drying, and the possibility of sun burns, some of which can be so severe they can be qualified as second degree burns, and the worse case scenario, skin cancer.

Ok, so the sun is bad unless you go out with sunscreen. The newest fad to help save you from the damage of the sun? Tanning salons. Girls in high school will tan feverishly before going to dances, others simply go once or twice a week throughout winter so they can continue to have that nice, sun-kissed look. But are tanning beds any safer?

Again, the answer is no. The reason your skin becomes dark is because it is getting damaged and deteriorating from UV rays that both the sun and tanning beds subject you to. So going to a tanning salon is virtually no different than lying beneath the sun for an hour or two. For a long time people were under the impression that because you were out of the sun, you were safe from UV rays and thus safe from skin cancer.

However, in recent years, the truth has come out about tanning beds and have since become referred to by some people as cancer boxes. You will have to accept the facts: there is no safe tan.
At least, there is no safe tan when it comes to obtaining a tan through the use of light. You can always purchase sunless tanning products such as sprays or creams, or bronzers such as powders for your face.

These will give you the darker look you crave in order to appear what everyone claims as healthy. If beauty is only skin deep, once you damage that skin, what will you have to fall back on?

The important thing to remember is that a tan does not equal a healthy body or mind. A tan is just one more superficial thing that people have embraced without any solid reasons. There used to be a time when pale, ivory skin was considered beautiful.

In the end, the best advice is to wear sunscreen, enjoy the sun as it is, and accept your skin for what it is. Resting in that kind of happy medium will make you feel better about yourself and bring you true beauty.

Herpes Treatments and Causes

Here is some good news for all those needing herpes treatment. Though the disease is caused by a virus (the Herpes Simplex Viruses or HSV), and so cannot be completely eradicated ever from the system, but the symptoms of herpes can surely be removed from the body now. Medical studies conducted by Landmark University has established that products such as H-Away and its anti-viral ingredients can effectively eliminate the symptoms of both genital and oral herpes.

The herpes disease tends to come back even after the symptoms have been removed by a medicine. But there are those herbal formulas such as H-Away that can reduce recurring outbreaks as well.

Yes many factors determine what the best line of treatment should be. Such as the frequency of the attack. If this is the first time the symptoms have appeared then it is probably the worst as the virus hits the hardest the first time. It would be quite painful and effects of the virus would also be the severest on the face or the genitals. On the other hand if it a second, third or even a fourth attack, the severity of the pain and other symptoms should be less. So naturally, herpes treatment will also depend on whether it is an initial attack or a recurrent one.

Treatment also depends on frequency of the disease. For example, those in whom the virus keeps coming back need a suppressive therapy, wherein he or she will need to take the medicine on a daily basis so that the virus can be kept deactivated within the body.

Though in odd cases, even young people can get affected and need treatment, but mostly those who are infected with the virus are in the wrong side of 50. At least in them the symptoms are visible, though the virus attack might have happened earlier. And so, experts say that age is a factor. With age the power of immunity goes down and when this happens other diseases have a better chance of causing an impact. These can work as a trigger to reactivate the Herpes Simplex Viruses again causing the symptoms of herpes to erupt.

So herpes treatment also involves strengthening the immune system so that the person is able to keep the triggers at bay.

A few home solutions can go a long way to cure the illness and also aids the herpes treatment option that the person has opted for. Here are a few tips on home care

Never itch or tub the infected skin area, as this will almost surely make it worse.

Use a soft towel after the bath and rinse slowly (better still, use a hair dryer to dry the skin surface).

Always use warm water.

Do not wear tight fitting clothes.

Avoid public conveyance and crowded places.

The affected areas should be clean and dry.

And lastly, do not lose hope even if it keeps coming back. Remember, there are good herpes treatment options now. So pick a proven herpes treatment and push the virus back.

The Essential Sun Skin Care For Men

Many men like outdoor activities. Playing sports, hiking, working outside is part of our active nature. But, what happens when this extended time outdoors become a hazard to us? We know that the sun can have harmful effects on our skin, ultimately bringing skin cancer to our life; that is why it is of utmost importance to properly take care of our skin while under the sun.

Tips to Protect Our Skin from the Sun

1.Avoid sun exposure from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the period between these hours is when the sun is most harmful, especially at 12 p.m.

2.Use a solar protection cream of at least 15 SPF. The more sensitive your skin, the higher the SPF recommended. Use the cream everyday if you are planning to go outdoors, be generous when applying the cream onto your skin. And dont think the clouds will protect you form the harmful rays of the sun. They cant, so apply the cream in every place where the light of the sun can enter.

3.Use a hat. Baseball hats protect only the face, but they arent useless for the ears and neck. If youre staying a long time under the sun, it is best to use a cowboy style hat, that casts a shadow to all our head.

4.Use clothing with long sleeves to protect your arms. Nowadays you can find these type of clothing made specially for sun protection. The looser the clothing the fresher youll feel. Of course this might be hard if not torturing, if the overall climate is hot.

5.Wear sunglasses, the rays of the sun also harm our eyes, you can use special UV glasses.

These are proven tips for protecting your skin, and dont forget to have a medical check once in a while. This way you are prevented and prepared, and remember that skin damages are better to treat early.

Ear Piercing Causes Eczema

Ear piercing is very popular these days, this has been influenced a lot thanks to changing fashion statements. Ear piercing is expected to get much more popular. Atopic eczema has also become very common but very few studies have dealt with the idea that ear piercing itself could be responsible for causing eczema.

Ear piercing involves putting a hole in your ear and then putting a piece of metal through it. This leads to contact with heavy metals like nickel and cobalt. It is strictly advisable to do the piercing under perfectly hygienic conditions. Even after the piercing is finished, there are some precautions that you should follow.

Atopic eczema is triggered by certain allergens in affected people. An exposure to a certain material could trigger eczema, could a metal such as nickel trigger eczema?

Scientists have researched whether nickel can cause a trigger for atopic eczema. In an experiment on 960 young girls it is found that around 13% of those who got their ears pierced, went on to develop allergic skin reactions. Of the same sample, only 1% of those who did not get their ears pierced had eczema. Similarly, in an study on 520 young Swedish men doing compulsory military service, it is found that hypersensitivity to nickel and cobalt is higher (in 8% men) among those who got piercing. In contrast only 2.7% of those who did not get their ear pierced developed eczema. In another study on 424 Norwegian schoolchildren aged between 7-12 years, 89 children had their ears pierced and 79 developed skin allergies to metallic jewellery, which is a whopping 88% of those who had their ears pierced! These studies statistically relate ear piercing consisting of nickel and cobalt to atopic eczema, and establish the metals as allergens to a significant percentage of the population.

It is possible to protect yourself from allergic reactions, first you should start by visiting your doctor for an allergen test. If you discover that you are not allergic to nickel then it should be ok to go ahead and have your ears pierced.

Another less obvious reason for skin allergies after getting ear pierced might not actually be the metal, it could be the latex gloves that are worn by the person that pierces your ear. If you believe you are allergic to latex or rubber, then you should request that the person uses a pair of gloves made out of a different material. Since children have showed very high susceptibility towards possible nickel sensitization (88% as compared to 13% among adult men) it can be seen that children are much more sensitive, and so extreme care should be taken when considering piercing your childs ears. For people suffering from diabetes, epilepsy, hypertension, heart disease or hemophilia, it is important to seek your doctors approval before even considering piercing your ears.

Good skin health is far more important than just making a fashion statement. After all a face full of rash doesnt make a good fashion statement anyway! With a little precaution and restraint it is possible to prevent developing atopic eczema.

Warts Treatment and Removal

Warts are another disease that is caused by the Human Papilloma Virus or the HPV. This condition does not kill anyone, but is there any point in keeping these small benign growths on the skin and encouraging them to spread? Therefore warts treatment is necessary, though the fact remains that the warts may often go away on their own, but not before causing some damage.

Warts not only happen in adults, but are seen in children as well. Sometimes the virus passes from a mother to a new born child. Warts are contagious and so can spread from one person to another when someone directly touches the warts of the affected individual. And it can definitely spread through direct sex. Protection during sex such as wearing a condom may not be enough to stop an infiltration.

But even when there is no direct contact, the virus can still spread through towels, sharing clothing and also taking a bath in the same shower. Does the virus spread through kissing? There is no unanimity on this some say it does, while others do not agree with them on this. Because of this, both for the affected individual and the people he comes in contact with, warts treatment is essential.

Warts can also bleed and itch. And even when they do not bleed, they can still come in line of clothing and cause a lot of irritation. These skin growths can also be quite embarrassing, particularly when they develop on the exposed portions of the skin. And so, why suffer - articularly when warts treatment can get rid of these growths quickly and effectively.

There are 3 main options

Home remedies
Topical applications and medicines
Surgical options

Home remedies include

Adhesive Tape Therapy: Adhesive waterproof tapes are used to cover the warts for 6 to 12 days. In the area under the tape the virus cannot grow, and when after 6 to 12 days the tape is removed, the growth is significantly less, if not completely gone.

Salicylic Acid Therapy: This is basically a liquid or a plaster that is used to cover the wart tissue. But before it is applied, the area needs to be soaked with warm water and razored down slowly. The acid is applied only after this.

There are now some very fine topical application medicines that can give wonderful results. Many of these applications have been scientifically developed using natural ingredients and are free from chemical fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides. Having almost no side effects, they offer quick results and are safe as well.

Surgery is a third option, but this can only be considered when the warts are relatively bigger and warts treatment is difficult or impossible through the conventional warts treatment methods.

Are You A Victim Of Occupational Eczema?

Skin diseases that are caused by contact with chemicals related to your work are called occupational skin diseases.

In order to diagnose these types of skin diseases, you will have to work closely with your dermatologist. You will need to pinpoint the condition first appearance and what triggers make it worse.

Occupational skin diseases may be furthered by irritants you are using at home. The most common occupational eczema include: allergic contact dermatitis, hives (contact urticaria), and irritant contact dermatitis.

What is allergic contact dermatitis?
Allergic contact dermatitis is not only common but has a huge list of potential suspects behind it. Allergens may be aromatic chemicals, caustic chemicals, metals, organic chemicals, plants, plant extracts or any combination of these. Haptens, simple chemicals that require a protein bond to become an antigen, are the most common culprits.

The immune system is a factor in allergic contact dermatitis (ACD), meaning that people who have weakened immune systems are more susceptible to ACD, which makes age a factor in diagnosis.

Depending on location and chronic qualities, the appearance of ACD varies. Most symptoms include: blisters (of all sizes), cracking, flaking, inflammation, papules, redness, and swelling. Common body areas for manifestation include: ears, face, feet, hands, and neck. Common culprits include:

Adhesives.
Beauty Products, including cosmetics, skin/hair care
Chemicals
Dyes
Jewelry
Latex based products
Plants (and plant derivatives)
Rubber based products

Typically, treatment of ACD includes: identifying the allergen and finding/following ways to avoid it which may include substitution of a different product. Topical medication in the form of corticosteroids will relieve symptoms.

What are Hives (contact urticaria)?

Hives can be caused by either allergens or caustic substances and can attack people with atopic dermatitis very easily. For example, a person who works at a cosmetics counter and is required to wear that product may have more trouble if they have atopic dermatitis. Treatment for this form of occupational eczema is the same as for allergic contact dermatitis.

What is irritant contact dermatitis?

Irritant contact dermatitis is the most common form of occupational eczema and affects exposed areas of skin (arms, face, hands, and neck). It can just bed a reddish patch of chapped skin or it can be as bad as skin ulcers. Itching is extreme and scratching seriously worsens the flare up.

An inherited overactive response to triggers is one cause longer life spans and more severe symptoms in patients with atopic dermatitis. These triggers can be temperature/precipitation, friction, chemical irritants and stress. The number of potential irritants is very large and on the job contact may be with one or more:

Adhesives/glues
Alkalis
Aromatic chemicals
Asphalt
Bacteria
Bathroom cleaning products
Chemical salts
Foods
Fungi
Gases
Glass fibers

Lubricants
Metals
Plants/derivatives
Soaps and detergents
Solvents
Tar

Irritant contact dermatitis is treated the same as allergic contact dermatitis, but the addition of exposure modification and protection are critical, as is educating the workers.

With any form of occupational eczema, it is as important to be aware of possible infections as it is with other forms of dermatitis. This is especially true for people who work in agriculture, food processing, food preparation (restaurants/cafeterias), health care, school systems, and veterinary medicine. The tendency of the skin to get broken open through scratching allows infection to attack your already deprived immune system with ease.

Consultation with a doctor is important for diagnosis. Skin infections, whether bacterial, fungal, or viral can mimic eczema but can be cured and may be contagious; eczema is not. Prompt treatment of these infections can lead to further complications and spread of the infection.

Other Occupational Skin Conditions

Acne: comedogenic products, such as theatrical cosmetics, industrial oils, cooking oils can cause acne. Comedogenic means that the pores are plugged with an oily substance, which becomes apparent through both black and white heads.

Apparel with rubber lining (such as hard hats and rubber straps for carrying tools) may also be comedogenic in some occupations.

Frictional dermatitis: this is caused by repetition in handling of necessary tools for the job. For example, a worker who sews the tags on blue jeans may get frictional dermatitis from the constant movement of the denim against her hands/arms.

Oily Skin - Natural Tanning Oil

You may be doing what you can to put a stop to oily skin; exfoliating, cleansing, the whole nine yards. Yet your oil glands still produce too much sebum and all that oil can occasionally drive you bonkers. However, there are some good sides to having oily skin. True, these good things are few and far in between, and do not do much in the ways of knocking out all the negative impacts oily skin can have, but you do have to take what you can get, right?

One of the better benefits to having oily skin comes in the form of tanning. When you have oily skin and prefer to go outside and soak up some rays of the sun, you can be sure to look forward to a nice, even tan. The oil on your skin keeps it well lubricated and helps to even out the sunlight shining down over your skin. This is a pleasure that people with dry skin are not so fortunate to have.

However, you must remember that just because you can receive a nice, even tan because you have oily skin, that does not mean you are less susceptible to sun damage, sunburns, or skin cancer. The natural oil the skin produces are only meant to protect your skin from so much damage, and is not meant to halt all the UV rays sunlight brings down upon you. Your natural oil is meant as a moisturizer, not as a protective sunscreen. This is why if you choose to go outside, or even to use a tanning bed, you should look into finding a good sunscreen.

As you already have oily skin, you do not want to burden your skin with more oils from sunscreen. Important to remember is that there is a large difference between tanning oils and sunscreen. Tanning oils are meant to help you brown, but most of them do not offer protection from UV rays. If there is no SPF number on it, count it out. It can be difficult to find a sunscreen that will not add to your oily skin problem. After all, it would only behoove you to buy a sunscreen, put it on your body, and then discover later that it has only helped to clog your pores, aiding in a new acne outbreak, or has simply made your skin look and feel even oilier.

Easy ways to avoid this would be to avoid lounging outside in the sun altogether, or at least as little as possible. Yet you still want your beautiful bronze tan, correct? The answer is simple; buy a self-tanning product. A spray or cream can be just what you need to get that been in the sun for hours look without actually having to be in the sun for hours. Companies have been working hard and getting better and better at getting the right colors for instant tanning products, so you do not have to worry as much about winding up orange as you might have several years ago.

If you truly wish to lie out in the sun and take advantage of the even tan your oily skin can offer you, then you should look into appropriate sunscreens to help keep your skin safe from too much damage and the development of skin cancer. You will most likely have to shop around, looking for sunscreens that are specifically made for oily skin. You can even go to online forums where the discussion is all about oily skin and ask members what some good options may be. Or you can check with your dermatologist to see if he or she has any good products in mind.

Whichever option you decide to use, always be sure to take good care of your skin so it remains strong and healthy for you in the future.
